Day 15: The Free Gift of Salvation: Why pray for the salvation of Souls?

Salvation is a free grace extended to every sinner;

for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” So that all have the opportunity to put their faith in God and be delivered from darkness into light.
— Romans 3:23

So that all have the opportunity to put their faith in God and be delivered from darkness into light. Ephesians 2:8-9 “8 For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God,9 not a result of works, so that no one may boast.” Titus 3:5 “He saved us, not because of works done by us in righteousness, but according to his own mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewal of the Holy Spirit.”

According to these verses stated above, none of us merit this gift from God and therefore, it is only fair that we intercede for others so they can also by the mercy of God, gain access to this gift. Many people or religious organizations have different ways to access God but the Bible is very specific about salvation- ONLY THROUGH JESUS CHRISTActs 4:12 “And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.” It’s Gods desire that all will repent and come to him. It is important that the church stands.

God has commanded his church to share the good news of salvation so that many can come to repentance and serve God. Mathew 28:19-20 “19Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey all that I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”

It is God’s desire that people get saved, therefore as intercessors we have the responsibility to stand in the place of prayer and come into agreement with the word of God regarding salvation.

Ezekiel 18:23 “Do I take any pleasure in the death of the wicked? declares the Lord GOD. Wouldn’t I prefer that he turn from his ways and live?”

1 Timothy 2:4: God "desires all people to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth.”

2 Peter 3:9: "The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance.”

The gift of Salvation is not dependent upon our righteous acts. We pray so the unsaved can also have access. Titus 3:5 “He saved us, not by the righteous deeds we had done, but according to His mercy, through the washing of new birth and renewal by the Holy Spirit.

We pray because we have a God who is full of love for his own and ready to forgive and wipe away our sins. Micah 7:18-19 “18 Who is a God like You, who pardons iniquity and passes over the transgression of the remnant of His inheritance—who does not retain His anger forever, because He delights in loving devotion? 19 He will again have compassion on us; He will vanquish our iniquities. You will cast out all our sins into the depths of the sea.”

We interceded because it is a battle for the soul of man. God desires salvation, the devil desires death and destruction and therefore ensures to stand in the way of salvation at all cost. John 10:10 “10 The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.”

Prayer Points

Pray that believers will be eager to share the gospel wherever the Holy Spirit directs: Romans 1:16 “For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek.”

Pray that many will answer the Call to go out and preach the Gospel of salvation: Acts 26:17-18 “17 I will rescue you from your own people and from the Gentiles. I am sending you to them. 18 to open their eyes, so that they may turn from darkness to light and from the power of Satan to God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins and an inheritance among those sanctified by faith in Me.”

As simple and as straightforward this verse is, one will wonder why salvation is so difficult. Pray for the Holy Spirit to quicken the hearts of those needing salvation: Romans 10:9-10 “9 because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved.”

Pray that the fire of God’s word will burn down every blindness from the devil covering the minds of unbelievers: 2 Corinthians 4:4 “The god of this age has blinded the minds of unbelievers, so that they cannot see the light of the gospel that displays the glory of Christ, who is the image of God.”

Pray for the mercy of God to locate unbelievers and spare them from the deception and destruction of Satan. 2 Thessalonians 2:9-10 “9The coming of the lawless one will be accompanied by the working of Satan, with every kind of power, sign, and false wonder, 10 and with every wicked deception directed against those who are perishing, because they refused the love of the truth that would have saved them.”

Pray that God will cause the unsaved to see the light, as he did for Saul of Tarsus: John 3:19-20 “19 And this is the verdict: The Light has come into the world, but men loved the darkness rather than the Light because their deeds were evil. 20 Everyone who does evil hates the Light, and does not come into the Light for fear that his deeds will be exposed.”

Some people look at themselves and imagine how unqualified they are for salvation, yet salvation is for all. Pray for the grace of salvation upon the unsaved in our families, communities and churches.

Romans 10:12-13 “12 For there is no difference between Jew and Greek: The same Lord is Lord of all, and gives richly to all who call on Him, 13 for, “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”

The size and type of our sins matter nothing when confronted by Calvary. When Jesus died, he died for all shades of sin. The devil has been using this to hold sinner’s hostage. Pray that the unsaved will respond to the call of God: “come now” Isaiah 1:18 “Come now, let us settle the matter,” says the LORD. “Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red as crimson, they shall be like wool.”

Pray that the Holy Spirit will continue to work in the hearts of unbelievers so that they can turn their hearts to the Lord: Isaiah 45:22 “Turn to Me and be saved, all the ends of the earth; for I am God, and there is no other.”

Pray that God the Holy Spirit will convict the hearts of those needing salvation and send them off to Jesus for repentance.  John 16:8 “And when he comes, he will convict the world concerning sin and righteousness and judgment.”  John 6:44 ““No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws them, and I will raise them up at the last day.

Day 14: The Voice of God

“1In the past God spoke to our ancestors through the prophets at many times and in various ways, 2 but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, and through whom also he made the universe.”
— Hebrews 1:1-2

If God speaks, then he has a voice by which he communicates and thus, we are expected to hear his voice. Hearing the voice of God has always been an issue in the church among believers and has created a controversy around the clarity of his voice. Sometimes the question is, does God speaks and even if believers claim he speaks, are they hearing him or they are drawing their own conclusions from their perceived understanding of what they think is the voice of God?

As stated above in Hebrew 1:1, God spoke in the past through his prophets and he spoke many times and in different ways, such as; Isaiah and Ezekiel had visions (Isaiah 6:1-8, Ezekiel 1:1)Spoke to Joseph through dreams (Genesis 37:5-10), direct speech: Adam and Eve(Gensis 3) After they had sinned, God called them, symbolic actions: Asked Jeremiah to go buy a belt and put around his waist (Jeremiah 13:1-11), Moses in the burning bush (Exodus 3); Audible voice-Samuel-(1 Samuel 3:4-10), gentle whisper- Elijah (1Kings 19:12) and much more.

Prophets played a fundamental role in warning, guiding, and encouraging God’s people in the past. They were the essential link between God and his people in delivering his message to them.Jeremiah 1: “4 The word of the LORD came to me, saying: 5 “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, and before you were born I set you apart and appointed you as a prophet to the nations.”

Joel 2:28 “And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions”

Hebrews 1:1:2 shifts the way God speak today- “but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, and through whom also he made the universe.” If God speak through his son, God’s voice is found Only Christ Jesus. This places the significance of the word of God. Jesus has been appointment the heir and its only through him that every has been made. The revelation of the word of God is very important in our ability to hear God. When God speaks, it carries power, authority, life, and authenticity. Jesus Christ is superior to the prophets. Th delivery of God’s word and voice through Jesus Christ embodies everything about God whereas in the past there was a limitation. Jesus Christ is the word of God that became flesh (John 1:1-14).

Today, God still communicates and his voice is loudest in the word to teach, direct, rebuke, correct, and train us in his path of righteousness. 2 Timothy 3:16-17 states “16 All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness,17 so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.”

God speaks via his word, and knowing God is the first step to hearing his voice: Hearing the voice of God comes from the revelation of his word and only builds up as one becomes a sheep in his pasture (Pen), not wandering outside. John 10: 14- 16, 27 “14 I am the good shepherd; I know my sheep and my sheep know me. 15  just as the Father knows me and I know the Father—and I lay down my life for the sheep. 16 I have other sheep that are not of this sheep pen. I must bring them also. They too will listen to my voice, and there shall be one flock and one shepherd. 27 My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me.”

Revelation is the gift God has given man to understand what God says, but we have the responsibility to develop and intentionally open an obedient heart that is ready to sit in the presence of God and intentionally study his word. In dwelling in the word, we train ourselves to cultivate a sensitive spirit that picks up the voice of God. In 1 Samuel 3, we see that Samuel began in the season where the word of God was scarce (1Samuel 3:1) and Samuel knew nothing about God’s word; 1 Samuel 3:7 “ Now Samuel did not yet know the Lord: The word of the Lord had not yet been revealed to him.” Hearing the voice is built over time, like in the case of Samuel. God initiated the speaking because Samuel was available in the temple. With time, he was very familiar with the fact that when God spoke, he heard with precision. 1 Samuel 3: 19-21 “19  The Lord was with Samuel as he grew up, and he let none of Samuel’s words fall to the ground. 20 And all Israel from Dan to Beersheba recognized that Samuel was attested as a prophet of the Lord. 21 The Lord continued to appear at Shiloh, and there he revealed himself to Samuel through his word.”

God speaks to man via the spirit of man, Romans 8:16 “ The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children.” John 16:13 “ But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all the truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come.:

1 Corinthians 2:10-15 “ 10 these are the things God has revealed to us by his Spirit. The Spirit searches all things, even the deep things of God. 11For who knows a person’s thoughts except their own spirit within them? In the same way no one knows the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God. 12 What we have received is not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, so that we may understand what God has freely given us. 13 This is what we speak, not in words taught us by human wisdom but in words taught by the Spirit, explaining spiritual realities with Spirit-taught words. 14 The person without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God but considers them foolishness, and cannot understand them because they are discerned only through the Spirit. 15 The person with the Spirit makes judgments about all things, but such a person is not subject to merely human judgments.”

Jeremiah 20:9 “But if I say, “I will not mention his word or speak anymore in his name,” his word is in my heart like a fire, a fire shut up in my bones. I am weary of holding it in; indeed, I cannot.”

God speaks through dreams: Job 33:14-16 “14  For God does speak—now one way, now another though no one perceives it. 15 In a dream, in a vision of the night, when deep sleep falls on people as they slumber in their beds, 16  he may speak in their ears and terrify them with warnings.”

God speaks through some divine circumstancesActs 16:6-10 “6 Paul and his companions traveled throughout the region of Phrygia and Galatia, having been kept by the Holy Spirit from preaching the word in the province of Asia. 7 When they came to the border of Mysia, they tried to enter Bithynia, but the Spirit of Jesus would not allow them to. 8 So they passed by Mysia and went down to Troas. 9 During the night Paul had a vision of a man of Macedonia standing and begging him, “Come over to Macedonia and help us.” 10 After Paul had seen the vision, we got ready at once to leave for Macedonia, concluding that God had called us to preach the gospel to them.”

Some guiding steps

• Knowing the voice of God begins with Being born again-Salvation.

• Knowing about God is not knowing his voice

• Church familiarity can mask our ability to learn his voice.

• The voice is in his word, and his word must be revealed, NEVER human reasoning.

• Seek to study the word: Romans 10:17- Faith comes by hearing

• It’s a process to grow into by consistently being in his presence and walking in obedience In Judges 6:36-40, Gideon needed repeated signs before recognizing God’s. In Jeremiah 1:6, Jeremiah with no experiences stated “I am only a boy” yet God’s word “burned like fire” in him (20:9). Disciples—though taught directly, they fully “understood the Scriptures” only after the resurrection, see Luke 24:45.

• Create time to worship, prayer and listen-1 Samuel 3:10

• Note that God’s Voice will never contradict his word.

Prayer Points

Ask the Holy Spirit for help and guidance: John 16:13 “When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth, for he will not speak on his own authority, but whatever he hears he will speak, and he will declare to you the things that are to come.”

Ask the Lord to reveal himself through his word: Hebrew 4:12 “For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.”

Ask God for the grace to incline our spirit ear where he can speak to us: Isaiah 55:3 “Incline your ear and come to me; hear, that your soul may live; and I will make with you an everlasting covenant, my steadfast, sure love for David.”

Ask God for the grace to come before him daily in prayer, worship and surrender: Romans 12:1-2 “1 I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. 2 Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.

Pray that anything blocking our ears from hearing God be dismantled now that we heard the word of the Lord: Jeremaiah 6:10 “To whom shall I speak and give warning, that they may hear? Behold, their ears are uncircumcised, they cannot listen; behold, the word of the Lord is to them an object of scorn; they take no pleasure in it.”

Pray that God will open your ears to hear his voice: John 10:34 “3 The gatekeeper opens the gate for him, and the sheep listen for his voice. He calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. 4 When he has brought out all his own, he goes on ahead of them, and his sheep follow him because they know his voice.”

Sometimes, we wonder what we hear, is it God, us or the devil? Stand on this word to first repent for any form of disobedience, thoughts you have allowed in you through the kind of music, friends, environment, TV etc then begin to command every thought in you that is not in alignment with Gods word to be demolished and break out of you in Jesus mighty name2 Corinthians 10:5-6 “5 We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ. 6 And we will be ready to punish every act of disobedience, once your obedience is complete.”

Day 13: Answering the Call to Serve God

Most often, believers have a misunderstanding of the call of God. Generally, every one of us is called from one degree to another. There is a general call as well as an individual call and appointments to different roles and functions, where some may be temporary or long-term. In all, there is the grace to carry us through each assignment.

According to :

“But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.”
— 1 Peter 2:9

We all have been called first out of darkness into God light- Jesus Christ for the purpose of fellowship1 Corinthians 1:9 “God is faithful, by whom you were called into the fellowship of his Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.” When God calls, he appoints for the purpose of bearing lasting fruits. John 15:16 “You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit and that your fruit should abide, so that whatever you ask the Father in my name, he may give it to you.” It’s not a show, as for those who have been called, it’s an opportunity to welcome the grace at work within us so that we are transformed into God’s image. Philippians 2:13 “for it is God who works in you to will and to act in order to fulfill his good purpose.”

The call of God is not based on what we are good at doing or human effort, else we will be taking credit every day or feel disappointed. Exodus 4:10-12 “10 But Moses said to the Lord, “Oh, my Lord, I am not eloquent, either in the past or since you have spoken to your servant, but I am slow of speech and of tongue.” 11 Then the Lord said to him, “Who has made man's mouth? Who makes him mute, or deaf, or seeing, or blind? Is it not I, the Lord? 12 Now therefore go, and I will be with your mouth and teach you what you shall speak.”. The call of God is based on grace extended upon the inadequate and limited man. When God called Moses, he listed all the reasons why he cannot be used by God. We can see our limitations, but God sees our potentials. We cannot see our failures or inadequacies, but God sees successes and effectiveness. It’s about what God can do with us and through us and nothing about what we can do for God. We are only vessels and all we must do is to present the vessel before God and he will shape it, filled it, and use it for whatever he wants.

We cannot be ashamed of our calling to serve God in any capacity. God has first called us to be holy and not per our own enablement but by the grace in Christ Jesus. It is through this; we have received our different duties to serve in God’s kingdom. We must come to the place where we are personally convicted and not doubt God. 2 Timothy 1:8-12 “8 Therefore do not be ashamed of the testimony about our Lord, nor of me his prisoner, but share in suffering for the gospel by the power of God, 9 who saved us and called us to a holy calling, not because of our works but because of his own purpose and grace, which he gave us in Christ Jesus before the ages began, 10 and which now has been manifested through the appearing of our Savior Christ Jesus, who abolished death and brought life and immortality to light through the gospel, 11 for which I was appointed a preacher and apostle and teacher, 12 which is why I suffer as I do. But I am not ashamed, for I know whom I have believed, and I am convinced that he is able to guard until that day what has been entrusted to me.”

Every believer in Christ has also been called, anointed, and empowered into a communal assignment- wining souls as well as given the authority over all sickness and demons. Luke 9:1-2 “1 And he called the twelve together and gave them power and authority over all demons and to cure diseases, 2 and he sent them out to proclaim the kingdom of God and to heal. Matthew 28:18-20 “18 And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”

When God calls, he separates from any form of distraction or something that may pull us back into the formal ways or place. Genesis 12:1-2 “1Now the Lord said to Abram, “Go from your country and your kindred and your father's house to the land that I will show you. 2 And I will make of you a great nation, and I will bless you and make your name great, so that you will be a blessing.”

When God calls, he equip for the task. We read here (Acts 2) how the disciples were empowered by the promised Holy Spirit on the day of Pentecost. Acts 1:8 “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.” Acts 2:1-4 “1 When the day of Pentecost arrived, they were all together in one place. 2 And suddenly there came from heaven a sound like a mighty rushing wind, and it filled the entire house where they were sitting. 3 And divided tongues as of fire appeared to them and rested on each one of them. 4 And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit gave them utterance.”

When God calls, we answer and fellow him daily without delay. Luke 9: 23-24 “23 Then Jesus said to all of them, “If anyone wants to come after Me, he must deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow Me. 24 For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake will save it.” And following him means walking in the light. John 8:12 “Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” When God called Elisha, he ran after Elijah, took his oxen and slaughtered them. This was sign of total surrender, total relinquishing of his rights and formal ways of life, taking on a new way, following God with everything without distractions. 1 Kings 19:20-21 “20 So Elisha left the oxen, ran after Elijah, and said, “Please let me kiss my father and mother goodbye, and then I will follow you.” “Go on back,” Elijah replied, “for what have I done to you?” 21 So Elisha turned back from him, took his pair of oxen, and slaughtered them. Using the oxen’s equipment for fuel, he cooked the meat and gave it to the people, and they ate. Then he set out to follow and serve Elijah.

We must go through a test for God’s to pour his oil on us for any given assignment. In 2 Kings 2: 1-18. We see how Elisha was tested three time and he passed all the test, God released the anointing to serve upon him. These are the spiritual significance of each test. 1. Gilgal: Rolling away- removal of shame, old self, rolled away the reproach of Egypt, transition- Walk by faith in the new not know what to expect.). 2. Bethel: House of God- place of surrender, yielding, humility. 3. Jericho: The battle ground- first city to fall in the takeover of Canaan. Before breakthroughs, there is always a major battle. Elisha was very focused, determined and had faith in the God who called him and of course he was able to get hold of the anointing. 2 Kings 2:9-12 “9 When they had crossed, Elijah said to Elisha, “Tell me, what can I do for you before I am taken from you?” “Let me inherit a double portion of your spirit,” Elisha replied. 10 “You have asked a difficult thing,” Elijah said, “yet if you see me when I am taken from you, it will be yours—otherwise, it will not.”11  As they were walking along and talking together, suddenly a chariot of fire and horses of fire appeared and separated the two of them, and Elijah went up to heaven in a whirlwind. 12 Elisha saw this and cried out, “My father! My father! The chariots and horsemen of Israel!” And Elisha saw him no more. Then he took hold of his garment and tore it in two.”

Prayer Points

Pray for the grace to be diligent in everything you do in the house of God irrespective what role (cleaning, greeter, usher, preaching Evangelism etc). 2 Peter 1:10-11 “10 Therefore, brothers, be all the more diligent to confirm your calling and election, for if you practice these qualitiesyou will never fall. 11 For in this way there will be richly provided for you an entrance into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.”

Pray and ask the Lord to make us worthy of the call so that we may fully fulfill his good purpose: 2 Thessalonians 1:11 “To this end we always pray for you, that our God may make you worthy of his calling and may fulfill every resolve for good and every work of faith by his power.”

Pray that the Holy Spirit will help us understand the hope of our calling. It’s not just some kind of a random stuff but we are called into the riches of God’s glory: Ephesians 1:18 “Having the eyes of your hearts enlightened, that you may know what is the hope to which he has called you, what are the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints.”

Pray that God will open the eyes of our understanding into this divine power that has been granted onto us so that we are not in a struggle to serve God in the areas of our calling: 2 Peter 1:3 “His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of him who called us to his own glory and excellence.”

Pray that we will not reject the call of God. Pray for vigilance and sensitivity as we serve God, so we don’t neglect his calling and so face consequences. Proverbs 1:24-26 “24 Because I have called and you refused to listen, have stretched out my hand and no one has heeded, 25 because you have ignored all my counsel and would have none of my reproof, 26 I also will laugh at your calamity; I will mock when terror strikes you.”

Pray that as we answer the call of God, we will walk in humility and allow only Jesus in our hearts so that he can live within us and seen through us: 1 Peter 3:15 “But in your hearts honor Christ the Lord as holy, always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and respect.”

Pray against the spirit of arrogance in our use of whatever gift God has deposited in us. Pray that we will use our gifts only for its intended purpose- serving others and bringing glory to God. 1 Peter 4:10-11 “10 As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God's varied grace:11 whoever speaks, as one who speaks oracles of God; whoever serves, as one who serves by the strength that God supplies—in order that in everything God may be glorified through Jesus Christ. To him belong glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen.”

Pray that God will grant us the grace to surrender and trust God like Elisha (1 Kings 19:20-21)

Pray for the grace to go through and past the test like Elisha.
